Simon Mitchell received the Emerging Impact Award (any career stage), recognising the team’s efforts lay the foundation for personalised medicine in blood cancer using systems biology. Announced during Sussex Research Impact Awards 2023, the award is designed to recognise efforts to prepare and progress the fundamentals important for developing impact.

Arran Pack has been recognised for game-changing work and outstanding impact. Announced during Sussex Doc Fest on 8 June, the £1,000 Adam Weiler Awards recognise researchers who demonstrate the potential to make a lasting, positive impact with their PhD work, and is supported by a generous donation to the University in memory of a former student.

Dr Mitchell was recently awarded a prestigious £1.2m UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship to tackle Relapsed/Refractory DLBCL with Systems Biology approaches. The UKRI Future Leaders scheme invests in early career researchers and innovators with outstanding potential, helping them to develop their careers while tackling ambitious challenges.

Simon has been invited to present at the European Haematology Associations annual congress, June 9th-17th 2021. Simon will present his progress in understanding diffuse large B-cell lymphoma through systems biology. His presentation “A SYSTEMS BIOLOGY APPROACH TO DLBCL PREDICTS EMERGENT PHENOTYPES FROM MOLECULAR DYSREGULATION AND IDENTIFIES DISTINCT ROLES FOR NF-KB SUBUNITS CREL AND RELA.

The entire Mitchell group will be participating in SMB 2021 (June 13-17, 2021) with a number of members presenting research updates. Ielyaas Cloete will present his progress in simulating apoptotic signaling networks to enable better understanding their role in B-Cell lymphoma.
